JOHN OLSEN x VIVID SYDNEY DINNER  - WED, 31 may

PLÓOs CELEBRATES THE LIFE OF JOHN OLSEN AO OBE

Tim and Louise Olsen to host an intimate & exclusive dinner in honour of globally renowned Australian Artist John Olsen (1928-2023) for VIVID Sydney 2023

Ploós is honoured to be hosting an exclusive Arts Series’ Dinner in honour of the late, great Australian artist, John Olsen AO OBE, in celebration of Olsen’s iconic works beamed over the Sydney Opera House as part of VIVID Sydney 2023.

In direct view of the Sydney Opera House, underneath the Sydney Harbour Bridge and adjacent to the Overseas Passenger Terminal in The Rocks, there really is no better place to capture the buzz and beauty of VIVID Sydney 2023 with the best food and views available.  Guests can expect to soak in Olsen’s animated artwork displayed on the sails of the Sydney Opera House for the very first time all while enjoying a very special dinner with the artists’ family and friends for a moving tribute at this one-night-only event.

MC, Sally Loane, Chair of DNSW, will conduct an intimate and personal Q&A with Olsen’s children, Olsen Gallery’s, MD, Tim, and Dinosaur Design’s Creative Director, Louise, as they share with guests their father’s passion for a life well-lived including his love of family and friends, food, wine, art, Mediterranean cooking - including his experience working as an apprentice chef in Ibiza and Deia; but most importantly to celebrate his life’s works and his long history with the Sydney Opera House – past and present – all while his art pieces beam over the Opera House across the waters of Sydney Harbour directly in front of diners.

Tim Olsen says, “Coming to Ploós earlier this year to try Peter Conistis’ superb menu and sitting in front of the Opera House talking about my father and his life’s work planted a seed in me to bring Dad in to watch the Opera House light up over a beautiful meal – something he has enjoyed doing his whole life. To be working with the talented Ploo’s team on this one-night-only gastronomic event in honour of John, is very special. Dad was really looking forward to dining with all at Ploós and he was so excited to see his works on the Opera House sails during VIVID Sydney 2023 – a true honour for John and our family.

“This will be a wonderful night for Louise and I to honour and celebrate Dad as his iconic artworks light the night in the heart of Sydney. We are truly delighted to bring this night to John Olsen friends, family and fans and look forward to sharing Dad’s life and works with all”.

Widely regarded as the pioneer of Grecian cuisine in Australia, co-owner and Executive Chef Peter Conistis’ multi-course menu for the evening will celebrate Peter’s Greek heritage, his love of regional Mediterranean flavours and the art of his favoured cuisine.

As John Olsen’s landmark artworks light up the sails of the Opera House for the very first time, Ploós guests will enjoy a superb multi-course meal with matching wine in a nod to Olsen’s passion for Mediterranean cooking and his huge contribution to Australian culture and enjoyment of our cuisine.
